General
The Boy Covies are affiliated to Youth for Christ and Urban Saints. The aim of the group is to set before the boys the basics of the Christian faith, and in particular introduce them to Jesus Christ as a personal friend and saviour in whom they can depend in a world of uncertainty and insecurity.
Friday Nights
The Friday evening activity time is aimed at creating a Christian environment and building relationships with the boys through a variety of games and activities including bouncy castle, football, snooker, craft, table tennis and volleyball. Numerous trips are also arranged including Laser Quest, swimming, ten-pin bowling and ice-skating. In the Summer we also play 'wide games' and go go-karting.
A sense of belonging is important and so we encourage membership and regular attendance. To become a full subscribing member of the group, subs would need to be paid at the beginning of each school term. Alternatively, you can pay a weekly sub of 50p, but you would not get all the benefits of a subscribing member. A tuck shop is also available offering a wide range of confectionery.
Other Activities
In the summer holidays boys can go on Youth for Christ or Urban Saints camps. We have an annual camp on the Gower in Wales each year. This year's camp was a great time. A variety of activities took place including walks to the beach, rounders, It's a Knockout, team olympics, a Krypton Challenge and Wii Challenge. Some braved the sea as well as dune jumping. Each evening we got together for a time of praise and worship and to look at the fundamentals of what we believe. For more photos of this year's camp click here and click here.
Football
Football is the main Saturday morning activity with friendly matches arranged most weeks. We also enter numerous competitions throughout the season and in the Summer. We are always looking for teams to play, so if interested please contact us via the contact page.
Thanks to 'Sweets and Treats' located in Tewkesbury High Street the boys have a new strip.

Under 11 team
We also get involved in National and Regional activities including 'Supurbs' and the National Soccer Sixes in Birmingham. This year we entered three teams at under 11, under 13 and under 15 years. The under 11's battled their way to become National Champions!
Sponsored Children

The group sponsor 16 year old Jay-R who is cared for at Lama House in the Philippines and 13 year old Rajab who lives in Kampala, Uganda.
The boys contribute out of their own money to support Rajab and Jay-R who are in greater need than themselves. It is often “small change”, but it makes a big difference for Rajab and Jay-R.
Listen to a 'Day in the life of Jay-R' as told by Lesley Gomez (founder of LAMA House).
Boys also raised money to provide sports equipment for the Village of Hope and Grace charity for orphaned children in Tanzania.
A Youth Group with a Difference
Finally, this is a youth group with a difference. We offer the youth of today safe alternatives to the street. Some may say that "Church is boring", but hopefully this brief description of our activities will demonstrate that this, a Church based group, is far from boring.
If you are interested in becoming a member of Covies, please contact our Children and Youth Coordinator Rachel Westlake via the contact page.
